Society Aims and Objectives
As the South African Society for Atmospheric Sciences (SASAS) our main aim is to stimulate interest and support for all branches of the atmospheric sciences, both in South Africa and in the broader context, including the rest of Africa . This main aim is achieved through encouragement of research and education in the atmospheric sciences. This is achieved by collaboration between organisations and institutions interested in the science of the atmosphere.
SASAS was inaugurated in 1983. It is administered
by a Council, comprising four
officers (President, Vice President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer)
and ten Councillors, all of whom are re-elected bi-annually.
Membership and SASAS Members
SASAS membership is open to all persons who
are in agreement with the aims and objectives of the
Society. SASAS consists of Honorary Members, Ordinary Members, Institutional

by Council. All members are required to obey the Code of Ethics.
